Itinerary of Group from 26 Nov to 5 Dec 2000 10-days Indochina Express (Angkor Wat & River Kwai Death Railway)

Group of six at Angkor Wat

Cambodia is just opening up to tourism and we'd best be headed that way before they put up the Disneyland Ankor Wat Theme Park and Casino!! Then again, in a sea of commercial tourism like Thailand, it is still heartening that we can still get away to quiet and refreshing corners - so all is not lost I hope. The group consisted of two men (including the leader Yong Lee Keng) and five ladies and here was the itinerary of the trip.

26th Nov 2000 Sun - Depart KLIA at 0935hrs for the 0935hrs arriving Phnom Penh Cambodia at 1025hrs. After a quick check-in, we do the city sights, covering Tuol Sleng Prison, Chong Euk killing fields and the Royal Palace. We end the day at the Psar Thamei for a bit (or lot perhaps?) of shopping. Overnight (ON) Phnom Penh.

27th Mon - 0600hrs departure by express boat to Siem Reap. The 4-5 hours journey across the Tonle Sap Lake traverses diverse river scenery and village life. Arrive Siem Reap around noon and the rest of the day is free at leisure - an Angkor massage for weary bodies perhaps? ON Siem Reap.

28th Tue - Full day Angkor Wat Tour - it might not be enough! ON Siem Reap.

29th Wed - Today we explore Angkor's surrounding areas and the Vietnamese floating village. ON Siem Reap.

Reflections of Bayon Temple / Faces of Bayon

30th Thu - A hard dsy's journey today. It will take our pick-up (ladies inside, males on the back!), about 4-5 hours to cover the rought 150kms from Siem Reap to the Thailand border - Ouch! From the Thai border, we hop onto a bus for an easy 3-4 hours journey to Bangkok. Thai massage might be a good idea then! ON Bangkok.

1st Dec Fri - Early morning departure to Kancanaburi with a stop at the Damnon Saduak Floating market - the largest in Thailand, where we stop to smell the water and whatever is in it! Arrive Kancanaburi by early afternoon, and do a bicycle tour of nearby attractions including the much visited Bridge Over River Kwai. ON Kancanaburi.

2nd Sat - Full-day tour of Kancanaburi outlying areas, including a ride on the Death Railway, Hellfire Pass, Karen Village and do an elephant safari in the bush. ON Kancanaburi.

3rd Sun -.Morning return to Bangkok, and we arrive just as the sprawling Chatuchak Weekend Market is stirring. Shop till you drop! ON Bangkok.

4th Mon - Free day in Bangkok to rest and recuperate from Cambodia, or have some fun in the various amusement outlest abounding here. First-timers to Bangkok should not miss the Grand Palace complex and the adjoining thieves market. ON Bangkok..

5th Tue - Free at leisure until your 1710hrs departure to Kuala Lumpur. Juab Kh'mia and Chok Di.
