IMPORTANT NOTICE

This is meant to be a "free and easy" trip. Participants should be with a good sense of humour, and above all, have the right attitude for close travel with others through possibly some trying times. Most definitely, this is not a trip for prudes, whiners, fuss-pots, and other similiarly assorted types! We had a couple of those before and it wasn't pleasant for us or them. Although every effort will be made to stick to the given itinerary, ground conditions may change and cause some disruption and/or deviation from the norm. Otherwise, have fun!

   

Flower and Apples at Himachal

SPRING AND BLOSSOM IN THE VALLEY OF GODS - Spring and blossom in “Valley of Gods” with backdrop of snow capped Himalayan ranges is one of the most spectacular natural scenes to enjoy the beauty of the Western Himalayas. Different fruit trees including plums, apricot, cherries, peach blossom at different altitude between 1000m to 2500m during this time. 6 week blossom period is temperature sensitive and it means if the weather is warm in March, blossom can be early but the time mentioned above is the best time when every visitors can enjoy the spring and blossom in the Valley of Gods at different altitudes.

Himachal is one of the Western Himalayan state located next to Tibet, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Uttranchal. Here are some quick facts:

Day 1 April 4 Fly to Delhi: Depart KL(LCCT) on D7 2506 at afternoon flight 1600PM arriving Delhi local time 1910PM. Transfer to hotel. Overnight (ON) Delhi.

Day 2 Delhi Amritsar Dharamsala: Early morning transfer to airport to board on fast Shatabedi train to Chandigarh leaving 0720 hour and arriving 1300 hour at Amritsar. On arrival visit around Amritsar. Amritsar - the holy town of Sikhs, has grown from a sacred village pond into a spiritual temporal center of Sikh culture. The city gets its name from the pool - Amritsar (Pool of Nectar), which was constructed by the fourth religious preceptor of the Sikh faith. Golden Temple or Darbar Sahib is the most sacred temple for Sikhs. It is a symbol of the magnificence and strength of the Sikh people all over the world. Its architecture includes, symbols associated with other places of worship. This is an example of the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds. After lunch proceed to Dharamsala. The noticeable change in the landscape, vegetation & people will keep yourself busy through out the ride. On arrival transfer to Hotel. ON Dharamsala.

  

Amritsar/Mcleod Ganj

Day 3 Dharamsala & Mcleod Ganj: A day to walk around in Dharamsala and Mcleod Ganj. Mcleod Ganj is also known as Little Lhasa ( capital of Tibet), full of Tibetan people, Tibetan monasteries, colorful Tibetan handicraft shops and small restaurants, where the spiritual leader Dalai lama lives and also it houses the Tibetan Government in exile here on the hillock. Once the place used by the British as a garrison, now is a well known tourist destination among the foreigners as well as the domestic tourists. There are some Tibetan Research Institutes and small factories producing Tibetan herbal medicines here. Afternoon drive to visit Dalai Lama's Norbulinga Institute known for its various schools of Tibetan paintings and handicraft training. The saint Jones in wilderness is situated among the pine, oak & rhododendron trees at a walking distance. Free evening to walk around. ON Dharamsala.

Day 4 Kulu Valley : After experiencing the Tibetan philosophy and their life in India, today it's the day to get fascinated by the serenity and again the everyday changing season and its beauty along the way to Manali. On the way you will see tea estates cultivating the famous brand of green leaf tea known as Kangra tea. A visit to Andretta, famous artist Shoba Singh's house on the way will lead to our next stop at one of the rock Temple at Baijnath, which dates back to 12th century A.D.

We will further continue our undulating drive by the old route of Kandi-Kataula and finally in to the valley of Gods, The Kullu Valley. The drive is more spectacular, as you will be gradually ascending above sea level and the mountains can be felt near and near. Subject to the time, there are few places of interest in Kullu and while your way up to Manali. ON Kulu Valley

Day 5 Manali : Drive to visit some of the orchards in the area to enjoy the apple blossom in the area if you are at Manali at the time Apple Blossom is around Manali. After lunch drive to visit around Manali to visit Hidimba Devi temple, constructed in the middle of pine forest. Hidimba is the family Goddess of the Royal family of Kullu. There are local people offering hiring the local dress, photograph with yak ride in the premises of the temple. On completion drive to Manu temple. Manali is named after Manu Temple, which was traditionally called as Manu-Alaya which means "House of Manu". So later it was pronounced as Manali. According to Hindu mythology, human and nature have cycle of development and when it reaches its peak it is destroyed by some natural calamity and only very few people survive in this cycle. In the last destruction of the world, Manu was leader of the people who survived and he started the world from Manali. We will also visit the Tibetan monasteries and mountaineering institute. Free afternoon for shopping and own activities. ON Manali

Day 6 Manali: Morning drive to Solang to enjoy paragliding or skiing (Optional). Continue to Snow Point which is the maximum approachable road towards Rohtang Pass depending on the snow condition (3978m). Between July to October, you can arrive on top of Rohtang Pass and view the peaks, mountains and glaciers of Chandra-Bhaga range. Most of the peaks in CB range are above 5000m and covered with snow all round the year. Afternoon visit Rorich Art Gallery and Naggar Castle at Naggar on the way. Rorich Art Gallery displays the artwork of both Professor Nicholas Rerich and his son. Naggar was the old capital of Kullu state before it was shifted to Kullu town in 1660.

Day 7 Manali Shimla: Early morning drive 270 km to Shimla. This journey offers a dramatic changes in nature from Lower Himalayas to Shivalik Himalayas and then again to the lower Himalayas. You will be driving form a hilltop to different valley structures and sometimes driving along different rivers. Drive to Bajaura to visit Basheshar Mahadev temple at Bajaura with fine stone carvings and sculptures is believed to have been built in the mid 8th century. It is truly an incredible structure. On the banks of the river Beas, roughly about 200 m off the road. On completion drive to Shimla. ON Shimla.

Day 8 Shimla Chandigarh: After breakfast drive to visit th e Indian Institute of Advanced Studies. This institute is housed in the Viceregal Lodge, which was built in 1884-88 during the British times. It has spacious gardens and is ringed by beautiful pine trees.  On completion drive to the Mall lined with European style small buildings. Shimla was the Summer Capital of India during British rule and most of the buildings are constructed by Britons. There are also some Chinese shoe makers and Indian Chinese restaurants owned by lndian Chinese. The new generation of Indian Chinese can't speak even their own dialect. Older generation can speak and write Chinese or at least they can speck their own dialect. After lunch and shopping on the Mall transfer to train station and board on hill train leaving 1425 hour for 40 minutes ride to Taradevi arriving 1505 hour. On arrival drive 120 km, 3 hours to Chandigarh. On arrival transfer to Hotel. ON Chandigarh.

 

     
Manali/Shivalik Himalayas

Day 9 Chandigarh-Delhi-Home: After breakfast transfer to train station to board on Shatabedi express leaving 0650 hour and arriving 1000 hour at Delhi. Afternoon visit Akshardham Temple. Akshardham means the eternal, divine abode of the supreme God, the abode of eternal values and virtues of Akshar as defined in the Vedas and Upanishads where divine bhakti, purity and peace forever pervades.

Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi epitomises 10,000 years of Indian culture in all its breathtaking grandeur, beauty, wisdom and bliss. It brilliantly showcases the essence of India's ancient architecture, traditions and timeless spiritual messages. After dinner, transfer to airport. We will catch flight D72507 at night flight 2025PM back to KL.

Day 10 Home 13 April : arriving KLIA at 0435AM early morning (13 April)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Cost cover budgeted accommodation, ground arrangement, guide and transport.
  2. Not covered are Indian visa fees Rm168, Asia flight ticket & airport taxes, entrances (less than Rm200), activities and meals. Allocate about Rm250 for 9 days meals. Guides accompanying group do expect tips. Yongo encourages group members to be generous but should commensurate with services rendered.
  3. A deposit of Rm809 is payable to confirm your place.
  4. Cost is subject to change if there's a significant changes in foreign exchange rates and/or airfares.
