Normal return fares all in is an affordable Rm523. Dates are subject to availability of place in Maliau Basin. So lets form the group quickly. Check out the Sep08 pics on the link above. We can arrange a 2D1N trip to Mabul, Kapalai & Mataking snorkeling trip for a min size of 10 pax. If your are a Foreign Passport Holders, let us know. The entry and other fees imposed by by Maliau Basin Authorities are higher for non-Malaysians.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
This is meant to be a "free and easy" budget trip. Participants should be relatively fit (for Maliau trip, participants have to be fit or get fit) with a good sense of humour, and above all, have the right attitude for close travel with others through possibly some trying times. Most definitely, this is not a trip for prudes, whiners, fuss-pots, and other similiarly assorted types! Although every effort will be made to stick to the given itinerary, ground conditions may change and cause some disruption and/or deviation from the norm. Otherwise, have fun!

This trip is for regular trekkers to whom Maliau Basin needs no introduction. One has to be fit or has to get fit to endure the long hours of jungle trekking. Group will buy/cook own meals. For this purpose, a separate Group Fund of Rm300 will be collected. The group fund will also be used to pay for the food porters if needed and the optional night drive Rm160 per vehicle. Excess will be returned and if insufficient, members will have to top up. Members have the opton of paying for meals on Trek days at a cost of Rm208 per person per day. Note that accommodation in the jungle is basic but we budget for a standard double at Maliau Basin Science Center (MBSC) on our last night.

Day 1 Agathis Camp: Fly Air Asia 720AM from KLIA arriving 1005AM Tawau. We go to the local market for seafood. We also visit the supermarket to buy our provisions for the duration of this trip. Its 300km 4.5hr to the security gate of Maliau Basin Conservation Area. After registration, we travel another 20km to Agathis Camp. This good sized camp has flush toilets, cold showers, hammock beds, kitchen and dining areas and generators for lighting at night. Optional Night Drive that goes about 10km one way.

Day 2 Camel Trophy Camp: After breakfast, we trek 7.5kms (4-6 hours) through steep hills, as we will ascending to the highest level of the Basin. Built in 1993 by the participants of the Camel Tropy Sabah Expedition 1993, camp has two flush toilets, two cold showers, mattress in bunk beds, small kitchen, small dining area and solar-powered florescent lighting at night.

Day 3 Camel Tropy Camp: We visit the Giluk and Takob Akob waterfalls, located some 3.6km 1.5hr easy trek. There are a total of 10 listed waterfalls on the toporaphic map of Maliau. A visit to the nearly heath forest is also recommended. Overnight Camel Trophy Camp.(Note other organisers will do one night here instead of Yongo's two. With two nights here, group members can recover in between the two hard days)

Start at Agathis Camp / Camel Trophy Camp

Day 4 Ginseng Camp: Its 9km 4hr trek to Lobah Camp to replenish drinking water. We pass through the previous day beautiful heath forest with moss-covered ground, abundance of wild orchids and pitcher plants - a photographer's paradise. There are virtually no trees with diameter exceeding two inches as the soil is thin and nutrients deficient. We are now in the midst of what is know as the "Lost World of Sabah". From Lobah, it is 2.5km 1hr to the spectacular 7-tiers Maliau Falls. Daredevils can swim accross the 50 meter pool at the base of the falls. We backtrack 4.5km 1hr to the Ginseng junction and then another 1km 40min to Ginseng Camp. This is a newly constructed raised camp with excellent facilities - flushed toilets, cold showers, big kitchen and dining areas, bunk beds with mattresses and generator lights.

Day 5 Back to Agathis Camp and MBSC: Morning visit and a dip perhaps in the Ginseng Waterfall. We return to Agathis Camp on an relatively easy 9km 5-6hr, early enough for cleaning up, soak in Agathis River. We transport out to MBSC for a final night stay in standard doubles at this Science Center. Meals will be at own cost.

Day 6 Go Home: After breakfast, we depart by 4WD back to Tawau 300km 5hr. It will a late lunch/.early dinner meal. We wander around Tawau market for some shopping. Dried seafood is good value here. We rejoin our vehicle which takes us to the Tawau Airport. Depart 635PM and arrive 0920PM.
