Bac Ha Market / Village Trekking Sapa

IMPORTANT NOTICE : This is meant to be a "free and easy" budget trip. Participants should be relatively fit, with a good sense of humour, and above all, have the right attitude for close travel with others through possibly some trying times. Most definitely, this is not a trip for prudes, whiners, fuss-pots, and other similarly assorted types! Although every effort will be made to stick to the given itinerary, ground conditions may change and cause some disruption and/or deviation from the norm. Otherwise, have fun!

Can Cau market, close to the Chinese border, is a typical traditional mountain market in the middle of the field. The Can Cau and Bac Ha is home to the colorful White and Black Hmong, Phu La, Tay, Dao and Nung ethnic peoples. Experience two of their bustling weekly markets which play an important part in the social and economic aspects of ethnic life here.

Day 1 - HANOI - Train - We take morning flight AK760 from KUL 0630 and reached Hanoi at 0830AM. Welcome to Hanoi! It takes approximately 35 minutes to drive to the centre of Hanoi. Let's start our city tour from Ba Dinh Square – the biggest square in Hanoi where all biggest cultural, political events of the cities, especially demonstrations, take place. Visit the Complex of Ho Chi Minh located by this square. Have a visit to Ho Chi Minh's house-on-stilts, his fish pond and the One-Pillar Pagoda before strolling around the Old Quarter of Hanoi by pedicabs. Afternoon continue to visit the city with stops at Ngoc Son Temple, the Sword Lake, which is considered the centre and the soul of the city. Visit the Temple of Literature, the very first High School of Vietnam. Dinner at your own arrangement for flexibility. After dinner, transfer to Hanoi Railway Station for night train to Lao Cai at 21.30 pm to Lao Cai Station (310km northwest of Hanoi) . O/N the train.

Day 2: Cat Cat - Sin Chai-Sapa(B/L/D) -Arrive at Lao Cai railway station at 0600 and transfer by bus to Sapa, arriving at 0700. Check in hotel in Sapa and have lunch at our restaurant. Afterwards, we start the walk from Sapa through the Black Hmong villages of Cat Cat and Sin Chai, enjoy the waterfall in Cat Cat and beautiful scenery along the trek. Later we take a different route back to Sapa. O/N in a hotel at Sapa town.

Day 3: Can Cau market (Saturday)(B/L/D) -After having breakfast, you will visit Can Cau market. It is small but extremely colorful, set in mountains near the Chinese border. You can see many ethnic groups going to the market from the villages to sell or buy goods. The White Hmong is the most common here, their colorful dress make it the most beautiful sight. You will spend the whole morning there then go to Bac Ha for lunch. In the afternoon, you can take an easy trek to some nearby villages and visit the “old castle of the former Hmong King” that was built by the French and Chinese architects in 1920. O/N in Bac Ha.

Day 4: Bac Ha market (Sunday)(B/L/D) - You will visit this huge market (every SUNDAY ONLY) with its colorful array of ethnic people such as the White and Black Hmong, Phu La and Dao Tuyen who gather to buy and sell. This is the most colorful market in North Vietnam. At the market, you have chance to enjoy Bac Ha people’s simple but unique kinds of food with special wines made from rice, cassavas, corn and different sorts of fruits such as plumps, apples, peaches. You will enjoy lunch in local restaurant. You will then be transported by car to Lao Cai station. 21h15 - Night train back to Hanoi (soft sleeper with air-conditioning).

Day 5 Hanoi-Home - Reach Hanoi Railway Station at early morning 0450AM and then we will go to airport directly to catch morning flight AK371 Hanoi to LCCT(KL), Depart 0900AM Arrive 1330PM at LCCT.

  1. Cost cover accomodation, land transport, train and most of the meals as stated above.
  2. Accommodation will be in budget hotels,guesthouses and local village.
  3. Not covered are airfares (Air Asia), airport taxes & fuel surcharges, activities and meals (except for those mentioned above).
  4. Not covered are guide tips. Yongo encourages group members to be generous but should commensurate with services rendered.
  5. A deposit of Rm680 is payable to confirm your place.
  6. Cost is subject to change if there's a significant changes in foreign exchange rates and airfares.
